I fewyears back I found a rifle in the air ducts of my house so I turned it into the police. What do they do with it and can I take it after a while?
At our office, we cannot return guns to society without a court order (ie. criminal case was dismissed). We usually trade the unclaimed guns in for new patrol weapons or ammunition.

US service members wounded in protest over burned Qurans
18.05.12
Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN) -- A demonstrator died and several U.S. service members and Afghan police were injured as protests over the burning of Qurans at a U.S. military base turned violent Sunday, said officials.
The bloodshed in northern Kunduz province came a day after a gunman killed two U.S. military officers inside their office in the highly secured Afghanistan Ministry of Interior -- one of several incidents targeting allied forces after reports emerged last week that NATO troops had burned Muslim holy books at Bagram Airfield.
U.S. officials, including President Barack Obama, have apologized for the burning and called it inadvertent. A military official -- speaking on condition of anonymity, given the sensitivity of the issue -- said the materials were from a detainee center's library and had "inscriptions" that appeared to be used to "facilitate extremist communications."
Such statements, or explanations, haven't stopped protests from Muslims in Afghanistan, who believe the Quran is the word of God and so holy that people should wash their hands before even touching it.
A potential bomb threat prompted authorities to evacuate a school in Eloy on Thursday afternoon.
Police were called to Toltec Middle School around 2 p.m. for a report of a suspicious package in one of the classrooms, according to police spokesman Brian Jerome.
Officers determined the package posed a threat and evacuated the school, Jerome said. Students were taken to Toltec Elementary School in Arizona City.
Authorities with the state Department of Public Safety bomb squad inspected the package and concluded it was safe for police to investigate, Jerome said.
The package apparently contained some chemical that investigators are trying to identify. Police are interviewing seven students about the incident, Jerome said.
Parents looking for more information on the incident are encouraged to call the district office at 520-466-2360.
Police Union Bosses File Complaint against Police Chief Stopping ...
by Don Loos
City Council unanimously passed a motion in support of Police Chief Dan Duffy on Tuesday, asking the police union to withdraw their unfair labor complaint against the city that involves the chief.
Filed on April 14, the grievance takes issue with Duffy’s off-duty arrest of a man in possession of marijuana on March 20. The chief, who is not part of the collective bargaining unit, should not be allowed to perform bargaining unit work, FOP President Bob Martin explained to council last week, but Duffy would be “legally and morally obligated” to stop a crime if he came upon one in progress.
Martin clarified that the March 20 case was an example of the chief leaving his home to conduct police work, but noted that the chief also “happens to be a part of the collateral damage” in their attempt to convince city administration “to sit down and negotiate” the terms of their contracts.
